Sandbox
When I was a child
I played with my brother
In the sandbox.
We made little stories
About our toys.
We dug up the earth
To create their homes -
Villages, mountains
Valleys we built,
Then flooded and rebuilt
Again and again...
Until the summer sun faded
Behind the sway of the Norway maples
The black slopes of our neighbors' homes.
It was time to go in
Until tomorrow.
